REYNOSA, Tamaulipas – A team of Gulf Cartel gunmen fleeing from state police set off a manhunt inside a college campus in this border city. While authorities reported no injuries, the school campus went into a full lockdown as cartel gunmen moved about the hallways in order to escape from authorities.

The manhunt took place this week at the Technological University of Tamaulipas (UTT) while classes were in session. The incident began in the city’s west side when Tamaulipas state authorities responded to a call about gunmen riding in a gray Chevrolet Trailblazer. Police officers spotted the vehicle and tried to pull it over but the gunmen sped away. The chase ended outside of the UTT campus when the gunmen riding in the SUV ran inside to escape from authorities. School officials and authorities immediately put the college into lockdown. Authorities ordered the students get on the ground and barricade themselves inside their classrooms.

Video taken inside the campus during the lockdown captured the scene as two men wearing body armor, helmets and carrying rifles can be seen running across one of the school grounds. Military and federal police forces rushed to the scene and tried to set up a perimeter to capture the gunmen.

Another video documents state police officers running around the schoolyards hunting for the cartel gunmen. Despite the efforts by authorities, it is believed that the cartel gunmen managed to elude police by running across the college campus and then to a brushy area behind the school.

The close call inside UTT follows an ongoing series of shootouts and chases that have been taking place in Reynosa as rival factions of the Gulf Cartel continue to fight over drug and human smuggling routes, Breitbart News reported.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish.
