Border Patrol agents from the Laredo Sector arrested two human smugglers after they found illegal immigrants stuffed inside duffel bags. The two arrests came on Friday at the Interstate 35 immigration checkpoint located between Laredo and San Antonio.
In separate incidents, Border Patrol agents referred two vehicles with U.S. citizen drivers to a secondary inspection station after a K-9 agent alerted to an odor it was trained to detect. The secondary inspection of both vehicles resulted in the discovery of four illegal aliens, according to information obtained by Breitbart Texas from Laredo Sector officials.
The four illegal immigrants were stuffed inside duffel bags, officials stated. A quick check revealed the four migrants to be in good health.
A records check on the migrants determined the four people were from Mexico.
The four Mexican nationals will likely be subject to expedited removals and/or prosecution for illegal entry into the U.S.
“The vigilance of the men and women of the United States Border Patrol in disrupting this human smuggling attempt attests to our commitment in keeping America and it’s communities safe,” Laredo Sector Acting Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Anthony S. Good said in a written statement.
In another case of human smuggling on Sunday, Border Patrol agents in Laredo responded to a call about “illegal activity” involving a black Jeep Compass. When agents arrived they found the vehicle abandoned. The agents observed several people fleeing from the scene. A search of the area turned up the driver, a Mexican national with a Border Crossing Card.
Agents arrested the Mexican national on human smuggling charges after finding the other four illegal immigrants. They were also Mexican nationals.
Federal officials revoked the driver’s Border Crossing Card because of his involvement in human smuggling.
The four illegal immigrants will face expedited removal and/or prosecution for immigration violations.
