PIEDRAS NEGRAS, Coahuila — While the border state of Coahuila continues to promote the region as safe, many are asking how a group of kidnappers were able to move a victim from Nuevo Leon to Coahuila without being caught at three police and military checkpoints.
The recent kidnapping took place in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, when a group took 48-year-old Rene Gonzalez at gunpoint. They tortured Gonzalez, who is originally from the State of Mexico, and even sliced part of his ear off while demanding a ransom.
According to information provided to Breitbart Texas by Coahuila authorities, the gunmen were able to stuff their victim into a vehicle and move from Monterrey into Coahuila, where they dropped off their victim near Piedras Negras and made a clean escape. The victim was able to get medical help and speak to authorities thereafter.
The puzzling aspect of the case involves the three separate highway security checkpoints that the gunmen cleared before arriving in Piedras Negras. One of the checkpoints was set up by the Mexican Army, one by Mexico’s Federal Police, and one by the Fuerza Coahuila.
In recent years, Mexican authorities set up various highway checkpoints where federal or state personnel stop incoming vehicles and carry out searches for illicit cargo often trafficked by cartels such as weapons, drugs, illegal immigrants, stolen fuel, and bulk cash.
