Two Sex Offenders Arrested Crossing Border from Mexico

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested a Texas man who is on the Texas Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) “10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders List” as he re-entered the U.S. from Mexico. One day earlier, Border Patrol agents in Arizona arrested another previously deported child sex offender who illegally crossed the border into Arizona.

On March 8, Mexican law enforcement officers presented the Texas man to CBP officers assigned to the Presidio Port of Entry. The CBP officers confirmed the man, 39-year-old Daniel Carrillo, has state and federal warrants in Texas and is listed on the DPS 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders List, according to information obtained by Breitbart Texas from CBP officials.

According to public records obtained by Breitbart Texas from Texas DPS officials, Carrillo is affiliated with the Partido Revolucionario Mexicano, a Mexican prison gang. In 1999, the U.S. citizen received a conviction from a court in Brewster County, Texas for sexually assaulting a 4-year-old boy. The court sentenced Carrillo to 10 years in state prison. Following his release, officials say prosecutors in Houston County charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly attacked a woman. He later failed to appear in court and authorities issued a warrant for his arrest.

Brewster County issued another warrant for Carrillo when he failed to properly register as a sex offender. The U.S. Marshall’s Service also issued a warrant for the man on a federal charge for a Sex Offender Registration Violation, DPS officials stated.

Mexican police arrested the U.S. citizen in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, and brought him to the border in Presidio where CBP officers took custody of him and turned him over to U.S. Deputy Marshall’s. Texas DPS officials previously offered a $3,000 reward for his arrest. It is not known if the reward is being paid out in this case.

“It is not uncommon for CBP officers to encounter fugitives who are returning to the U.S. after fleeing to a foreign country to avoid prosecution, “Michael Neipert, CBP Presidio Port Director, Michael Neipert said in a written statement. “In this case, the cooperative spirit existing between U.S. and Mexican law enforcement agencies led to the apprehension and identification of this high profile target.”

On March 8, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Tucson Sector arrested a previously convicted sex offender after he illegally crossed the unsecured border near Nogales. The Nogales Station agents arrested Jesus Ojeda-Ricardez, a 32-year-old Mexican national, just north of the international boundary. During a biometric background check, the agents discovered that a California court convicted Ojeda-Ricardez on charges of domestic violence and sexual assault of a minor. The conviction occurred in 2006.

He now faces new charges of aggravated re-entry after removal as a sex offender. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in federal prison.
