State authorities in Guanajuato arrested a team of hitmen linked to one of the most dangerous cartels in Mexico. The gunmen had various weapons and uniforms from Mexico’s Federal Police forces.

Guanajuato state police officers arrested the cartel gunmen following an attempted traffic stop that turned into a chase. They were riding in a Ford Figo with stolen license plates, Guanajuato’s Attorney General’s Office revealed. The gunmen drove through the streets of Joyas de Castilla neighborhood while trying to flee but were caught shortly after.

After inspecting the vehicle, the officers found multiple caps and shirts with the logos of Mexico’s Federal Police-Special Forces, as well as several tactical vests, some with the letters CJNG (Cartel Jalisco New Generation). Authorities also found three rifles and three pistols currently being analyzed to determine if they have been used in any other crime.

Guanajuato is one of the states of central Mexico that has seen a drastic increase in narco-violence after the CJNG’s attempt to take control of the region.
