Border Patrol Agents Arrest Turkish Migrant after Illegally Crossing from Canada

Early morning action by Swanton Sector Border Patrol agents stationed in New York led to the arrest of a Turkish national being illegally smuggled into the U.S. The man entered illegally by crossing the border from Canada into New York.

Agents assigned to the Burke Station in New York became suspicious of a vehicle driving near the Canadian border at about 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The agents stopped the vehicle to conduct an immigration inspection. The driver presented a U.S. passport for his identification. Agents asked the passenger for identification and he presented a Turkish Identification Card. Agents said he had no immigration documentation, according to information obtained by Breitbart Texas from U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

The agents took both men to the station for further investigation.

Agents confirmed the identity and immigration status of Ibrahim Evelek, a 30-year-old citizen of Turkey who illegally entered the U.S. from Canada. Agents confirmed the driver to be his brother who agents say drove from New Jersey to pick him up.

Human smuggling charges were not filed against the brother. Agents released him from custody.

Ibrahim Evelek will be processed for illegally entering the country, a violation of 8 USC 1325.

“The quick response by the agents resulted in the immediate arrest of this individual,” Burke Station Patrol Agent in Charge Dennis O’Neill said in a written statement. “I’m proud of the vigilance U.S. Border Patrol Agents display every day to keep our border secure and our country safe.”
