PIEDRAS NEGRAS, Coahuila — A police investigator faces a probe for his alleged role in the execution of a local drug dealer. The homicide case is reportedly linked to a territorial dispute between drug cartels.
State Police Investigator Alejandro Lopez is under an official probe by his peers for his alleged participation in the murder of Adan Rogelio “La Guera Cocona” Melo Cruz. As Breitbart Texas reported, Melo Cruz was critically wounded earlier this month by a team of cartel assassins who shot him several times. After fighting for his life for several days, Melo Cruz died of medical complications related to the attack.
According to information revealed to Breitbart Texas by state police sources, Melo Cruz was engaged in the trafficking and sale of narcotics in his home. Lopez was allegedly charging Melo Cruz a protection fee and reportedly visited the victim hours before the attack.
Melo Cruz’s homicide follows an escalation of violence felt throughout the city starting late last year. Recently, a Los Zetas group known as Cartel Del Noreste hung several banners in Piedras Negras taking credit for recent executions and claimed their dominance in the area.
Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities. The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by “J.M. Martinez” from Coahuila.
