State and federal law enforcement agencies teamed up to seize more than a ton of marijuana in the tiny Texas border town of Falcon.
After noticing suspicious activity in Falcon, Texas, U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Zapata Station contacted the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) for assistance. After approaching the suspects, the agents and DPS troopers discovered more than 100 bundles of marijuana, according to information obtained by Breitbart Texas from U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.
The law enforcement officials found the marijuana in hidden compartments in two pickup trucks. They also found additional bundles in a shed located on the property.
In total, DPS troopers and Border Patrol agents seized 102 bundles of the illicit drug. Officials estimated the street value of the marijuana to be $1,827,672.
The Drug Enforcement Agency took possession of the marijuana while Border Patrol seized the two trucks.
No arrests were made at the time of the seizures.
The town of Falcon is located just of Falcon Lake. The lake is part of the Rio Grande River border with Mexico. It is an area well known for drug and human smuggling.
In March 2017, Breitbart Texas journalist Ildefonso Ortiz reported that cartel gunmen in Mexico opened fire on three fishermen riding on a boat. The gunmen fired from the Mexican side of the border, striking all three fishermen. One died from his wounds.
Gunmen in Mexico also shot a Texas DPS trooper near this same area in November 2016, Ortiz reported. A Border Patrol agent working with the trooper was also hit by the gunfire. The agent’s ballistic vest protected him from serious injury. A DPS helicopter transported the wounded trooper to a McAllen hospital where he recovered.
A few days after the shooting, two more fishermen were hit on Falcon Lake. One of the fishermen also died from his wounds.
