A Texas man with a license to carry a handgun reportedly shot and killed an alleged armed robber at a restaurant in San Antonio.
The failed robbery attempt took place at a Popeye’s fried chicken restaurant in San Antonio, the Express-News reported Thursday morning. Police said the alleged robber approached a man and his family while displaying a gun. SAPD Captain Michael Starnes told the newspaper, “He was threatened by the robber, who was displaying a gun.”
Miller says the victim told the robber he was not going to give him anything. The robber then reportedly turned his attention to the store’s employees. Some fled the restaurant through the back door.
The father was waiting for two of his children to come out of the bathroom, police said. As they exited the bathroom, the robber turned his gun on the children. At that point, the father pulled his own gun and shot the would-be robber.
“The citizen is a licensed carrier and did use his handgun to take down the robber,” Starnes told the local newspaper.
Police said the robber appeared to be between 25 and 30 years old. No other description of the robber was reported. He died at the scene from his gunshot wounds.
Starnes said the father will not face any charges. “He really saved the day and protected a lot of people today,” the police captain said.
Reporters said the body of the deceased robber could be seen in the dining area of the restaurant while investigators gathered evidence.
