Iconic country western singer George Strait responded to a request from a Fort Worth police officer to bring comfort to a young girl dying in a West Texas.
Officer Damon Cole has earned a reputation for kindness by dressing up as a superhero to help seriously ill children. He focuses on children with cancer and other serious or terminal illnesses, Fox 4 News in Dallas reported.
After Cole heard about 10-year-old Bella Gamboa’s condition in Midland, Texas, he quickly decided to get involved to bring the young girl some comfort and happiness. Young Bella is dying, but she loves George Strait and his music.
Cole reached out to his friends to make a connection to Strait and see if he would bring a message of comfort to the little girl — and respond, he did.
Strait created a video message for Bella that is going viral. With more than 300,000 views and thousands of “likes,” Straits message brought a smile to the dying girl’s face.
“Hey, Bella,” Strait began in his message, “it’s me, George Strait.”
With his iconic country charm, Strait said, “I heard you weren’t doing so well. I just want you to know I am thinking about you and I am praying for you, and I hope you get better really soon.”
Strait told his young fan that it makes him happy to hear she likes and listens to his music. “Thank you for listening to me and liking my music,” he said with great compassion. With his trademark smile, Strait said, “That makes me very happy.”
“Remember, I love you. Bye, Bye darling,” he concluded.
Cole said Bella listens to Strait’s music every morning. “And, when she’s going to have surgery, she’s got him playing,” he stated.
The Fort Worth superhero described her reaction to seeing the video. “Bella could not believe that George Strait was talking to her,” Cole expressed. “It made her day. She smiled ear to ear.”
Officer Cole is continuing to help Bella by planning a fundraiser for her family in their hometown of Midland. The local police department is set to honor her by making her a junior police officer and the mayor will issue a “Superhero Bella Day” proclamation to recognized her bravery.
