A Fayette County Sheriff’s Office deputy seized $8 million in liquid methamphetamine during a traffic stop in central Texas on Thursday. Sheriff Keith Korenek’s office seized nearly $20 million in drugs during traffic stops in the past two weeks.
Sergeant Randy Thumann and his K-9 partner Lobos carried out a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Flatonia, Texas on Thursday afternoon. Thumann became suspicious that the driver may be trafficking drugs after interviewing him following the stop. After obtaining permission to search the SUV, Thumann and Lobos found approximately 20 pounds of liquid methamphetamine in the rear A/C box of the Ford Expedition, according to a statement provided to Breitbart Texas by Lt. David Beyer.
The deputy arrested the driver, Alonso Cuellar, 28, who is a resident of Laredo, Texas. Thumann transported Cuellar to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange and charged him with felony drug possession.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office seized the vehicle and the drugs as evidence.
Liquid methamphetamine makes four times its weight in crystal meth, Beyer stated. Officials estimated the street value of the resulting crystal meth to be approximate $8 million.
On September 23, Breitbart Texas reported that Sgt. Thumann seized another $4.1 million worth of cocaine after a traffic stop just a few miles away from Thursday’s bust.
Thumann and his K-9 partner Lobos stopped a Jeep Liberty near Flatonia. Thumann made contact with the driver of the SUV and asked about his travel itinerary. After speaking with the man he later identified as Sergio Gonzalez, a Mexican national, Thumann became suspicious that he may be trafficking narcotics. He obtained permission to search the vehicle from Gonzalez and deployed his partner, Lobos, to conduct a cursory search.
Lobos alerted to the presence of drugs leading Thuman to the discovery of 41 kilos of cocaine. The drugs were stashed in aftermarket compartments in the Jeep.
The day before this seizure, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Davis Smith seized 67 kilos of cocaine just two miles away. The investigator obtained permission to search the truck. During his search of the vehicle, Smith discovered 67 kilos of cocaine. He found the drugs hidden under the rear seat of the vehicle.
Officials estimated that seizure to be worth $6.7 million.
In two weeks, Sheriff Korenek’s deputies seized more than $18 million in drugs from three traffic stops in about a three or four-mile section of Interstate 10 near Flatonia.
