PIEDRAS NEGRAS, Coahuila — Cartel gunmen in this border city continue kidnapping groups of migrants looking to make their way into Texas. The attackers demand hefty ransoms and threaten to murder their victims if families to not adequately respond.
In response, police officers with the Coahuila Attorney General’s Office began carrying out a series of intelligence operations to track down the cartel cells behind the recent wave of kidnappings.
In one of their most recent operations, state cops arrested four men and two women who were part of a kidnapping cell. The group was involved in the kidnapping of three Honduran migrants whom were rescued by authorities in this border city.
Information provided to Breitbart Texas by Coahuila authorities revealed that the kidnapping cell took the Hondurans from downtown Piedras Negras to a ranch on the outskirts of the city. The gunmen made substantial ransom demands until authorities were able to rescue them.
Earlier this month, a cartel gunman died in a shootout with state police officers trying to rescue a group of migrants kidnapped in Piedras Negras, Breitbart Texas reported.
Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities. The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used.
