VALLE HERMOSO, Tamaulipas — The Mexican Army seized parts of a radio communication network used by the Gulf Cartel in this border city.

Valle Hermoso is a short distance from the border city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, one of the main cities used by the Gulf Cartel. Matamoros is immediately south of Brownsville, Texas.

According to information provided to Breitbart Texas by the Mexican Military, authorities went to various locations in the city’s downtown area in response to a series of anonymous tips.

Troops seized two radio repeaters and antennas each, used by the Gulf Cartel to establish a clandestine network for their surveillance operations known as “hawking” or halconeo.

To protect their criminal operations, the Gulf Cartel uses clandestine communication and complex video surveillance to keep an advantage over authorities.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by “J.A. Espinoza” from Tamaulipas.
