BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – An illegal alien accused of murdering an African-American teenager their birthday is now pleading not guilty to the charge.
Octavio Bringas, a 49-year-old illegal alien, will soon face a murder trial after he was arrested in connection for the killing of 16-year-old Darius Plummer. While pleading guilty to illegally re-entering the United States and possessing a firearm, the illegal alien pleaded not guilty to the murder charge, according to WAFB.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff deputies originally found Plummer in the apartment where he was shot in the head and back in March. Court documents allege Bringas was the only other individual in the apartment at the time of the shooting. Bringas’ family told police they heard the gunshot and when they entered the apartment, they only saw Plummer.
An ambulance transported Plummer, a student at Zachary High School, to the hospital where he later died from the gunshot wounds. Witnesses who live in the apartment building said Plummer visited but did not actually live there.
After the shooting, Bringas reportedly called one of the witnesses communicating with police, telling them that he accidentally discharged the gun and was on his way to Lafayette, Louisiana, which once served as a sanctuary city.
Bringas was subsequently arrested en route to Lafayette, with police saying they believe he was attempting to flee the country.
In a previous report by Breitbart Texas, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials confirmed that Bringas was an illegal alien. At that time, ICE officials placed Bringas on an immigration hold, where should he be released from local custody, he would be handed to immigration officials for eventual deportation.
Bringas has a history with the law. ICE spokesman Thomas Byrd previously told Breitbart Texas that immigration officials encountered Bringas in March 2012 after he was released from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. That month, Bringas was deported from the U.S.
Nearly 10 years before the illegal alien’s 2012 deportation, he was apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol after illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico Border.
