PIEDRAS NEGRAS, Coahuila — Mexican authorities continue investigating yet another murder in this border state as members of Cartel Jalisco New Generation seek control over lucrative drug trafficking routes.
The most recent probe began last week when officials discovered the body of Faustino Leija Mancha near a small river in this border city. According to information provided to Breitbart Texas by Coahuila authorities, the victim was discovered nude and severely beaten. Law enforcement believe they have identified two suspects and are preparing to issue arrest warrants.
In recent weeks, Coahuila saw a spike in murders in connection with a series of disputes for territorial control by drug cartels. Initially, Coahuila was managed by Los Zetas, however, that criminal organization has splintered into two factions: Cartel Del Noreste and Vieja Escuela Zeta. The latter has begun a push for CDN territories in Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Nuevo Leon, and Coahuila.
Most recently, Mexico’s Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) hung a banner in Saltillo, the state capital of Coahuila, Breitbart Texas reported. The CJNG claimed that officials allowed various cartels to operate in the state and that they would soon make a push for control of the region. The criminal organization issued a series of threats toward members of the other cartels, telling them to switch sides or face consequences.
Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities. The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by “J.M. Martinez” from Coahuila.
