MATAMOROS, Tamaulipas — In preparation for future cartel attacks like those seen in various border cities, state authorities carried out a series of training scenarios to prepare for continuing violence. The drills come after a spate of shootouts and cartel blockades overwhelmed Mexican authorities at their headquarters.
The training took place on the city’s southeastern side, setting up roadblocks and patrols mimicking the response by authorities to an attack by cartel gunmen. Inside the offices of the Tamaulipas Attorney General’s Office (PGJE), authorities also practiced security protocols for their staff.
The training comes days after Gulf Cartel gunmen surpassed the capabilities of Mexican authorities. The discovery of a camp for Mexico’s Gulf Cartel set off a series of roadblocks and shootouts near the PGJE, overwhelming the capabilities of law enforcement and causing chaos among residents, Breitbart Texas reported.
Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities. The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by “J.A. Espinoza” from Tamaulipas.
