HOUSTON, Texas – Harris County sheriff’s deputies discovered about $1 million-worth of lollipops laced with methamphetamine while responding to a burglary call. The drug-laced candy appears to be designed for distribution to children, say authorities.
A “foiled burglary nets enormous narcotic seizure early this morning,” the Harris County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page on Tuesday. “An estimated 600 POUNDS of Meth-pops were recovered, with an approximate street value of close to $1,000,000. It appears the candy was intended to be distributed among children and/or sold to juveniles.”
Lt. Ruben Diaz told reporters the deputies received a call about a burglary. When they arrived they apprehended two people at the scene and discovered a large quantity of drugs inside their vehicle, the Houston Chronicle reported. Some of the drug-laced lollipops were found to be in the shape of “Star Wars” and “Batman” emblems.
“What if one of these lollipops were dropped in a neighborhood and a child picked it up?” Diaz asked reporters. “We found the amount of drugs seized from this house was nearly a million dollars in street value.”
Click2Houston reported the lollipops were likely sold for $20 to $40 each.
Investigators reported they found multiple bags of the drugs loaded into the back seat of the vehicle. The deputies explained they car was packed so full the doors would not close properly.

The bust came about after a neighbor called police reporting what they believed to be a burglary in progress, CNN reported.
Sgt. Cedrick Collier told reporters the drugs were being manufactured inside the house. “It was evident they were making these in the kitchen,” he explained.
Lt. Diaz concluded the drugs are being marketed to children. “It hist home and affects the entire community when someone is targeting children like this.”
The investigation continues as deputies believe other suspects are involved.
