Dallas police arrested an armed man outside a police station who they say threatened the officers. Police say the man had two loaded handguns, five magazines, and an anonymous mask.
The incident occurred outside the Southwest Patrol Bureau station in Dallas on Wednesday afternoon. Police report the man approached officers outside the station, CBSDFW reported.
Police sources told WFAA reporters that Adan Salazar, 22, drove up to a security checkpoint wearing the Guy Fawkes mask, also associated with the hacker group Anonymous.
After smelling marijuana and observing suspicious behavior, police asked Salazar to get out of his vehicle. Police say he jumped on the ground shouting gibberish and then said he came there to shoot up the place, “just to show the world it can be done.”
He admitted to having weapons in the car. A search of the car reportedly revealed two 9mm handguns and five magazines. Officer also said they found marijuana in the car.
Officials said the man has no criminal history and is currently in custody, pending a mental health evaluation.
Dallas Police Deputy Chief Albert Martinez told Dallas Morning News reporters, “His behavior was very erratic. He was yelling; he was just saying words.”
Dallas police increased security outside substations in the aftermath of the July 2016 shooting that left five Dallas-area police officers dead.
“We have a duty to protect our citizens, but we also have a duty to protect our officers in this work environment,” Martinez explained. “They’ve got to have a safe place to come to.”
