An illegal immigrant from Central America pleaded guilty to raping a young female, leading to a five-year prison sentence with potential deportation after release.
Hermelando Chacon, 29, was charged by the Greenville Police Department back in October 2016 for allegedly raping a woman. Chacon was originally held on a $150,000 bond and could have received a maximum 11-year prison sentence, according to the Early Bird Paper.
Chacon’s attorney and the state prosecutors agreed on the lesser five-year sentence, only charging with the one count of rape, despite other sexual assault-related charges.
Upon completing his prison sentence, Chacon will be subject to deportation out of the country, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said.
