Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Alaska busted a man on the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) top-ten most wanted list. The man was a fugitive from San Francisco where he was indicted on child pornography charges.
ICE agents pulled over Kevin Trask, 40, on a traffic violation relating to faulty equipment on his vehicle. Trask reportedly gave ICE agents a fake name. Further investigation by the ICE agents revealed the man to be a wanted fugitive who fled California to avoid prosecution on charges of child pornography, according to a statement obtained from ICE officials on Friday.
Trask had been listed on the HSI most wanted fugitives list officials stated. He eventually admitted his real identity and that he was wanted on an indictment from the Northern District of California.
ICE officials reported that the investigation into Trask began in March 2012 after he allegedly downloaded a child porn video from a peer-to-peer network. Several weeks later, HSI investigators executed a search warrant on his residence after the IP address of the computer that allegedly downloaded the child porn traced back to Trask’s residence in San Francisco.
Soon after the search, Trask quit his job in San Francisco and moved to San Diego, officials stated. He apparently did not stay there long.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Trask following a November 2012 federal grand jury indictment in the Northern District of California. Agents attempted to locate Trask at two different addresses in the San Diego area. The second attempt to locate Trask came in January 2013. That attempt was also unsuccessful.
Later that year, Trask became one of the first fugitives to be featured on ICE’s new smartphone app designed to locate child predators.
“This arrest wouldn’t have come had it not been for the stellar efforts of the Fairbanks Airport Police Department,” Special Agent in Charge for San Francisco Ryan L. Spradlin said in a written statement. “Their instincts and diligence led to the arrest of an HSI most wanted fugitive and could very well have saved potential young victims from future harm.”
“Suspected child sexual exploitation or missing children may be reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, an Operation Predator partner, via its toll-free 24-hour hotline, 1-800-THE-LOST,” officials stated.
