MATAMOROS, Tamaulipas — Doctors have been forced to change their routines and follow various security protocols after cartel members have begun targeting them for kidnapping.
The rash of kidnappings has affected local Red Cross clinics, which temporarily stopped providing 24-hour services after various attempts by cartel gunmen to kidnap doctors on night shifts. The medical personnel are apparently targeted to have them provide care to suspected criminals in undisclosed locations.
Breitbart Texas spoke with various employees at the local Red Cross in Matamoros, who asked to not be identified by name. In one of the attempted kidnapping, two men wearing body armor pulled up to a clinic stating that an SUV was en route to take a doctor to provide care for an unknown individual. Rather than wait to be kidnapped, the doctors on duty and the nursing staff fled through the back door.
Some clinical staffs stopped wearing clothing typically seen in medical facilities. Physicians have also stopped taking patients at their offices and instead are using emergency rooms to blend in with the patients in event of another kidnapping.
Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities. The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by “J.A. Espinoza” from Matamoros, Tamaulipas.
