1 Million in Meth, Coke Seized at Mexican Border

More than $1 million worth of methamphetamine and cocaine were seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the border between Arizona and Mexico during a one week period. The drug seizures came in seven separate incidents in the Tucson Sector.

The largest single shipment of drugs that week came on November 1 when officers seized nearly $418,000 worth of cocaine at the Mariposa crossing. The driver of a Mazda sedan approached the border crossing, according to information obtained from CBP officials by Breitbart Texas. Officers referred the 64-year-old Mexican national to the secondary inspection. A search of his vehicle revealed 37 pounds of cocaine.

Earlier that day, officers at the DeConcini crossing discovered 20 pounds of methamphetamine in the dash of a Chevy sedan. The 22-year-old female Phoenix resident was referred to a secondary inspection station after a K-9 officer alerted to the presence of the drugs. That shipment was valued at over $60,000.

On November 6, officers who were also working the DeConcini crossing were alerted to the presence of drugs by a K-9 officer after the driver of a Nissan sedan approached the crossing. The 30-year-old female from Nogales, Sonora was referred to a secondary inspection station where officers discovered 29 pounds of cocaine hidden in the car. The $330,000 worth of cocaine was discovered in the front and rear bumpers of the Nissan.

Earlier that day, officers at the Mariposa crossing were alerted by a K-9 to the presence of methamphetamine in the muffler of a Nissan sedan. That car was driven by a 29-year-old Mexican national. Ten pounds of meth was seized by officers.

The search of a Jeep SUV later that same day led to the third drug seizure of the day for officers at the Mariposa crossing. A 25-year-old woman from Nogales, Mexico, was found to be smuggling 12 pounds of meth under the seats of her Jeep. Officials estimated the street value to be about $35,000.

Just one day earlier, officers at this same crossing discovered 38 pounds of meth in a Toyota sedan. The car was being driven by a 28-year-old woman from Mesa, Arizona. The officers discovered 38 pounds of meth after a K-9 alerted to the presence of the drugs.

Another bust was made by officers at this same crossing on November 3 when a 20-year-old woman from Rio Rico approached the crossing. Another K-9 alert led to a search of the Ford sedan revealing 23 pounds of meth valued at more than $70,000.

All of the drugs and vehicles were seized by CBP officials. The suspects were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for possible prosecution.
