HOUSTON, Texas – Leaders of the nation’s largest red state reached out quickly to congratulate President-Elect Donald J. Trump for his resounding victory.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said, “I congratulate Donald Trump on being elected the next President of the United States,” in a written statement obtained by Breitbart Texas.
Abbott continued:
One thing from this election is abundantly clear — millions of Americans feel they have been ignored by a political class in Washington, D.C. that prioritizes protecting an elite establishment before We the People. Now that the people have spoken, it is essential that elected officials work together to address the enormous challenges facing our nation.
I look forward to working with the new administration to ensure that we secure our border, restore the balance of power between the states and the federal government, and end the federal overreach that has unfortunately become a staple of the outgoing executive’s legacy.
Here in Texas, we will continue to fight for conservative, limited government principles that create economic opportunity and prosperity for all.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, who headed up Trump’s nearly ten point win in Texas, joined in the celebration of the election of our 45th President:
This is a great night for our country and a great night for Texas. It is a new day in America. Change is finally coming to Washington. The voices of voters who have been ignored by the Washington establishment, the Democrat establishment and the media establishment, finally were heard loud and clear.
What we are seeing tonight is what I saw campaigning with Trump – that he understands a lot about the heart and soul of America. The Democrats and Hillary obviously haven’t got a clue.
Texans will now have a good friend in the White House who will be our partner in securing the border. We’ll have a good friend in the White House who won’t fight our energy industry and will put us on the road to energy independence. We have a good friend in the White House who will support school choice for every child, who will stand up for life, for liberty and the Second Amendment. And for the first time since 2008, we won’t have a White House that we have to constantly sue to protect the rights of Texans.
Trump had a great victory in Texas. Once again, we saw that despite the usual Democrats’ brash talk, they are not going to turn Texas blue — they are not even going to turn it purple.
Texas stands as a beacon for the nation reflecting the very best of what America can be.
Texas’ senior senator, John Cornyn (R-TX), joined in celebrating Mr. Trump’s victory:
I want to congratulate President-elect Trump on his remarkable victory after one of the most hard-fought elections in recent memory. As this election made clear, Texans and all Americans are understandably concerned for our country and the direction we’re headed.
The threat posed by radical Islamic terrorism is real and growing, as Texans were reminded just this week. Obamacare continues to implode as Texas families face higher costs and fewer choices for coverage. And nearly eight years of President Obama’s draconian regulatory regime has suffocated job creators and hamstrung an underperforming economy.
The American people have delivered a resounding message that they’re ready for change, and eager for Republicans to tackle the big challenges facing our nation. I look forward to working with President-elect Trump to address the critical issues Texans and the American people have entrusted us to solve.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) who ran against the President-Elect during the Republican Primary expressed his congratulations and support for Mr. Trump:
I congratulate President-elect Trump on an amazing victory for the American worker. This affirms what we have long known, that Americans have resoundingly rejected the Obama-Clinton agenda of bigger government, intrusive regulation, executive overreach, and lawlessness that is killing innovation and jobs, squandering opportunity for working men and women, marginalizing our freedoms, and compromising our security.
This election astonished the pundits. This was a change election. Americans voted for Republicans because of a promise to go to Washington to reverse our current course, and end the Washington cartel — a promise to drain the swamp. Now is the time to follow through on those words with action. We cannot wait even one day to begin implementing a conservative agenda that fulfills those commitments.
I look forward to working with the new administration to confirm conservative justices from the strong list of 21 jurists that was promised. I look forward to working with the new administration to repeal Obamacare, to once and for all secure the border and enforce our immigration laws, and to take action that will rebuild our military and stop radical Islamic terrorists from infiltrating our homeland.
I am eager to help lead the fight in the Senate to pass the conservative agenda that President-elect Trump promised to the American people.
Charting a course to recovery will not be easy, it will take resolve and commitment to undo the havoc wreaked on our country the last eight years. But the future of America is worth it. Defending freedom and preserving the Constitution is worth it.
U.S. Representative-Elect Jody Arrington, elected Tuesday night to serve the Lubbock-Abilene area in Congress, was also quick to congratulate Mr. Trump.
Congratulations to Donald Trump on becoming the next President of the United States! As the next Congressman from District 19, I look forward to working with him to restore America’s greatness, and return the power back to WE THE PEOPLE.
The message from the American people is loud and clear: We are fed up with Washington and career politicians. We don’t want business as usual. We want a leader who will fix our problems and not just talk
