Texas is one of three states that has been warned about a potential terrorist attack on the day before the November 8 presidential election.
U.S. intelligence officials alerted the joint terrorism task force about potential attacks in three America states on the day before the election, CBS News reported on Friday morning.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott responded to the threat Friday urging vigilance and calm.
“My office is working with law enforcement officials and we are continuing to monitor the situation in close coordination with the Texas Department of Public Safety,” Governor Abbott wrote in a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas. “Texans should go about their daily lives as usual, but remain vigilant over the next several days and report any suspicious activity to state or local law enforcement. The State of Texas will continue to do everything it can to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.”
Federal authorities have not yet confirmed the credibility of the threats, CBS stated. Counterterrorism officials have been warned “out of an abundance of caution.”
“The counterterrorism and homeland security communities remain vigilant and well-postured to defend against attacks here in the United States,” a FBI official told CBS. “The FBI, working with our federal, state and local counterparts, shares and assesses intelligence on a daily basis and will continue to work closely with law enforcement and intelligence community partners to identify and disrupt any potential threat to public safety.”
The report from CBS also states that an alert was sent to local police about “polling places” being a likely “attractive target” for a lone wolf style attack like others seen in recent months around the country. Those attacks could be motivated by “violent extremist ideologies, sovereign citizen or other extremist activity” the article states.
