MONTERREY, Nuevo Leon — Five seconds and a barrage of AK-47 gunfire was enough for a team of gunmen to murder a police commander in this border state where cartel killers continue to fight for control of drug distribution routes.
A leaked surveillance video from a local business revealed the few seconds that the gunmen needed to carry out the murder and flee. The body of their victim was left behind in a GMC Sierra.
The recent murder took place in broad daylight in one of the main avenues in this city. The gunmen riding in a Honda Accord were able to murder Armando Amador Garcia, a commander with the Nuevo Leon Attorney General’s Office, and subsequently elude forces from Monterrey Police, Fuerza civil and military forces.
A second man riding in the vehicle with the 42-year-old commander was able to avoid the hail of bullets and went to hide inside a local business until other police forces responded. Unofficial sources claimed that the passenger was a prosecutor, that information was not officially confirmed nor denied by authorities.
Detectives combed through the surveillance video that shows the moment a gunmen leans out of the Honda Accord, grabbing a rifle and firing into Amador’s vehicle. According to information provided to Breitbart Texas by Nuevo Leon law enforcement sources, Amador is a native of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. He had been in law enforcement for more than a decade working at the state and federal levels. In recent years, Amador was fired from the Nuevo Leon Ministerial Police in the suburb of San Pedro.
Relatives of the commander told Breitbart Texas that Amador was not fired but he resigned after the murder of a top ranking police officer. That officer was a close associate of then Nuevo Leon Attorney General Adrian De La Garza who is currently the Mayor of Monterrey.
In 2015, Amador joined the Nuevo Leon AG’s office once again where he was assigned to lead a group of officers carrying out operations securing the Northern highways in the state which have seen a spike in cartel activity.
Authorities have not publicly determined a motive for the execution. It remains unclear if the murder was tied to the anti-cartel operation or if it was revenge for his previous investigations against drug dealers in Nuevo León.
Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities. The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by Tony Aranda from Monterrey, Nuevo León.
