NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – A group aligned with the Black Lives Matter movement is threatening to physically tear down New Orleans, Louisiana’s most famous French Quarter monument depicting President Andrew Jackson on a horse.
The group, “Take ‘Em Down Nola,” has for more than a year now called for the removal of every historical monument in the city of New Orleans with ties to the Confederacy and Civil War, but now focuses on the Jackson monument.
During a protest, Take ‘Em Down Nola organizers threatened to rip down the Jackson monument, which sits at the heart of the city’s French Quarter neighborhood, using ropes and activists.
“We’re going to go to Jackson Square. We’re going to put ropes around Andrew Jackson and we’re going to take him down off his pedestal,” Take ‘Em Down organizer Malcolm Suber said, according to the New Orleans Advocate.
Organizers with the group, who claim that historical monuments across the city represent “white supremacy,” said the Jackson monument protest will occur on September 24.
The group first came to prominence when New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu (D) bended to politically correct-charged actions and demanded four historical monuments in the city be removed because of their alleged message of “hate,” having ties to the Civil War.
Landrieu, via the Democrat-controlled New Orleans City Council, successfully passed a resolution to remove Lee Circle, a monument of PGT Beauregard, a Jefferson Davis monument and a monument in honor of the Battle of Liberty.
Since, Take ‘Em Down Nola has demanded all monuments in correlation to the Civil War, not just those randomly selected by Landrieu, come down.
This is not the first time Take ‘Em Down Nola has turned to extremist rhetoric or action.
Last year, the group protested at three different monuments across the city, defacing them with Ku Klux Klan (KKK) white pointed-hoods and painting fake blood across them, as exclusively reported by The Hayride.
Members aligned with Take ‘Em Down Nola have most recently posted threatening messages to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) on the city’s PGT Beauregard statue, The Hayride reported.
One message read: “Fist Up. Shoot Back,” accompanied with the #F*ck12 hashtag, which celebrated the death of New York City Police Department officers and has been previously reported on by Breitbart Texas.
Currently, monument removal in the city is being held up in the courts, with opposition groups to the tearing down of the monuments trying to slow the process.
Andrew Jackson (D) was the seventh President of the United States, previously known as the “Hero of New Orleans” in the War of 1812.
