BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – Former Bill Clinton advisor and Democratic consultant James Carville heaped praise on GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump for visiting flood victims in his home-state of Louisiana last week.
“Donald Trump came — thank you, Donald Trump,” said Carville on Fox & Friends. “He gave $100,000 to a church in Greenwell Springs, it was very effective. Thank you, Donald Trump.”
Carville is the second national Democrat figure who has lauded Trump for his early visit to the state, where more than 60,000 have been destroyed by floodwaters and 13 people were killed.
Former Democrat Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) also praised Trump for his visit, telling CNN that the presidential candidate brought much-needed attention to the region, Breitbart News reported.
“And I want to thank Mr. Trump for coming to Louisiana,” said Landrieu. “I think the governor’s admonition about not using it as a press op is a good one, but he brought attention to our state, and we need that now, because, this disaster, Brianna, is far larger than people can appreciate on television.”
“And if you could see it from a drone’s prospective, and look down all of south Louisiana, this is not just a Baton Rouge area event, Landrieu continued. “Livingston Parish, Ascension Parish, to the south central part of our state, and southwest, all the way over to Calcasieu.”
Landrieu also commented on the fact that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has yet to make a visit and said she hoped President Obama would make a visit, which he did just a day ago.
“That’s one thing I want people to understand, it’s both a blessing and a burden to have too much water, and we have too much of it now, and it is really a serious disaster, and I hope Secretary Clinton will make her way down, I hope President Obama will make a visit. And we need all the attention and help we can get,” Landrieu said.
When asked by NBC’s Matt Lauer this week if he would take the bet that Trump ties up polls nationally with Ms. Clinton by Labor Day, Carville declined, according to a video clip available on Breitbart News.
