In the wake of the police-involved shooting deaths of Alton Sterling and Philander Castile, a Black Lives Matter protest quickly turned deadly as an ambush on police in Dallas, Texas left five officers dead, and seven others wounded leading one prominent law enforcement voice to demand that President Barack Obama address the escalating violence.
At 11:43p.m. Thursday, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, Jr. tweeted “America needs Obama to get out of bed & address Dallas situation NOW. He poured gas on this situation with his dog whistle message earlier.”
As Breitbart News reported, at 4:22 a.m. Friday, President Obama spoke for a moment, while attending a NATO summit in Poland, to address the execution of the five law enforcement officers in Dallas. In his brief remarks, Obama said the officers in Dallas who were killed were “targeted,” adding, “We are horrified over these events.”
“There is no possible justification for these kinds of attacks or any violence against law enforcement,” Obama said. “Anyone involved in the senseless murders will be held fully accountable. Justice will be done.”
The ambush of officers in Dallas Thursday is the single deadliest day for law enforcement since September 11, 2001.
At least one of the suspects was carrying an AR-15, Breitbart News reported. President Obama also referenced the “powerful weapons” used to murder the officers in Dallas.
“Today is a wrenching reminder of the sacrifices they make for us,” Obama said. “We also know when people are armed with powerful weapons, unfortunately, it makes attacks like these more deadly and more tragic. And in the days ahead we’re going to have to consider those realities as well.”
As of now, this is an ongoing story. Live coverage of the coordinated ambush on police in Dallas, Texas is available from Breitbart News.
