An East Texas man has been allegedly using his personal vehicle as a mobile meth lab before authorities caught up with him on a “routine” traffic stop. The man fled but was later arrested following an investigation.

The use of a meth lab on wheels has some striking similarities with the wildly popular TV-show Breaking Bad. In that show, a chemistry teacher began to cook meth in an mobile home. The main character in the show turned to drugs as a way to pay for cancer treatments. He ended up going through unending tragedies before becoming a top drug lord and meeting a tragic end.

The real-life bust took place Sunday night in Nacogdoches County, when sheriff’s deputies pulled over 53-year-old Doug Brock on a traffic violation, KHOU reported. Information about the location of the traffic stop or the type of vehicle being used to house the meth lab were not reported by local news outlets. The information about the type of vehicle or the location was not released by Nacogdoches Sheriff’s Office.

After Brock stopped, authorities noticed his suspicious behavior and asked to search the vehicle. It was during that search that the man ran away towards a wooded area. Sheriff’s deputies continued their search of the vehicle and discovered that the vehicle doubled as a lab used to manufacture methamphetamine. Authorities found various chemicals and other items used to make the illegal drug. In addition, they also found 358 grams of liquid meth that they seized.

Sheriff’s deputies were able to identify Brock as the vehicle’s driver and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Authorities had charged him with one count of manufacturing a controlled substance and one count of possession of certain chemicals. The first charge is a first degree felony punishable by a term of 5 years to 99 years in prison, if convicted. The other charge is a second degree felony, punishable a term of two years to 20 years in prison, if convicted.

Sheriff’s deputies caught up with Brock on Monday at a local motel where he had been staying and booked him into the county jail.
