HOUSTON, Texas — Texas senator and Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz delighted hundreds of fired-up supporters by taking time to attend a rally in his hometown of Houston on Wednesday.

Cruz is in H-town where he spoke to a standing-room-only crowd of more than 1,200 at the Lincoln Reagan dinner hosted by the Harris County Republican Party, as reported by Breitbart Texas’ Bob Price.

The Texas senator will also take part in the GOP presidential debates on Thursday night at the University of Houston campus.

Senator Cruz greeted the crowd telling them, “After a whole lot of months on the road, it is good to be home.” Cruz is from Houston and has a home in the Bayou City with his wife Heidi and his two girls.

Immediately after that greeting, speaking of the endorsement he received from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, he said “Today is one of the greatest moments of my life.” Breitbart Texas reported that the governor endorsed the presidential hopeful and former employee on Wednesday morning.

Governor Abbott greeted the crowd gathered at the warehouse at Mach Industrial Group on Houston’s northeast side and gave an enthusiastic endorsement of Cruz before he introduced him, as reported by Breitbart Texas.

Cruz told those gathered that he did not know Abbott when he went to interview with him on November 2, 2002. He had applied for the solicitor general position but said he was thirty-one years old and really did not expect to be offered the position. He said his only orders from the Texas governor were “to stand-up for constitutional principles, defend the Constitution, and fight for our future.” He said Abbott told him, “Do not worry about the politics. If you do the right thing, the politics will take care of itself.”

Cruz went through the cases he defended for the Lone Star State as Texas’ solictor general in Attorney General Abbott’s office. He said he fought for “One Nation Under God” and for the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, and he added, “We won.” Someone in the crowd enthusiastically shouted – “Because you are a Bad Ass!”

Naming a few more of the cases that he defended as Texas solicitor general, he added he also represented the state against the UN and the World Court when they wanted to reopen 51 criminal convictions. This included the criminal cases of two teenage girls murdered in Houston.

Cruz told the crowd that kept shouting “Ted, Ted, Ted,” that the Super Tuesday election is the most important day of this election. He added that he was “poised to have a very good night.”

Cruz said, “The role of the first four primaries is to narrow the field.” He said a presidential candidate has to win one of the first three states and he has done that.

The Houstonian and Texas U.S. senator said he has fought amnesty, and has fought for life, marriage, religious liberty, and for the Bill of Rights. He said he has shown Texans and Americans where he stood, and he has fought for them.

Cruz told his supporters, “We are all here because we love our kids,” and added, “That’s the stakes, We can’t get that wrong.” In an apparent gab at one of his presidential opponents, he said, “We can’t be fooled by P.T. Barnum. The time for the clowns and dancing bears has passed.”

Cruz said it was time for Texans to stand together and to respond as they did when Santa Ana told those fighting at the Alamo they could surrender at discretion. They responded with a cannon shot. The crowd joined Cruz and immediately shouted – “Come and Take It.” He reminded those at the rally that William B. Travis said he would never surrender or retreat. When reminded that everyone fighting at the Alamo perished in the battle, he said there were others on the other side that died, “but no one remembers their names.”
