Heroin and methamphetamine worth more than a million dollars were discovered in a secret compartment under a pick-up truck in Del Rio by Customers and Border Protection (CBP) officers on Friday.

A Ford F-150 pickup truck came across the International Bridge in Del Rio on Friday, after a trip to Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila and caught the eye of one of the inspectors. The CBP officers directed it to the secondary search area.

The driver, a 30-year-old man from Big Spring, Texas, got out of the truck and was enjoying his last moments of freedom for some time. Officers took a long look through the entire truck. They eventually looked under the truck, where they found a “non-standard” compartment (pictured above) appearing to be made from PVC pipe and fiberglass, adjacent to the muffler.

Crammed into that compartment was a major drug stash — almost 10lbs of heroin. The heroin has an estimated street value of $393,300. Officers also found more than 43lbs of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $612,354. That totals $1,005,654 worth of deadly drugs.

The driver was turned over to Homeland Security for investigation and prosecution.

Port Director Alberto D. Perez, in a media release obtained by Breitbart Texas, said, “experience and training led the CBP officers to keep these narcotics from reaching our communities”.

CBP’s Del Rio Port of Entry is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organization.

This is another in a recent series of major drug seizures at the border, as previously reported by Breitbart Texas. More than $1.6 million in drugs were seized by CBP officers in one week at ports of entry ranging from Pharr (south of McAllen) to Eagle Pass, Texas.
