News outlets from around the world have confirmed and been forced to play catch up in reporting Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s crush on soap opera starlet Kate Del Castillo.
On January 10, Breitbart Texas’ Ildefonso Ortiz spoke with a retired senior level U.S. intelligence official working in Mexico and reported that Guzman and Del Castillo had been flirting from the beginning. The story published by Ortiz primarily focused on the tension caused by the interview and the capture amongst the upper echelons of the Sinaloa Cartel, primarily Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada and Damaso Lopez Nunez.
“They had a flirtation thing going on,” the official said adding that Guzman has a long history of pursuing young attractive women including his most recent wife and former beauty queen 26-year-old Emma Coronel Aispuro. “He wanted to be with her.”
The flirtation not only took place through text messages but also through phone conversations and video calls that intelligence officials have recorded.
“Over time Guzman and Del Castillo held several video and phone conversations that grew his infatuation with the sexy starlet,” the official said.
Since the initial story was published, Mexican news outlet Milenio was able to have the Blackberry messages leaked thus confirming Breitbart Texas’ original report. Since then multiple U.S. news outlets like CNN, New York Times and New York Daily News with their catchy headline “El Chapo sent steamy texts to Mexican actress Kate del Castillo ahead of meeting with Sean Penn“ even Buzzfeed ended up confirming Breitbart Texas’ report by publishing a story on the flirtatious texts.
