News outlets continue to use debunked Twitter and Facebook accounts to glorify the people responsible for close to 179,000 confirmed murders, countless kidnappings and other atrocities that have taken place in Mexico in recent years.
The most recent example of glorifying cold blooded murderers comes from Business Insider and their piece about the son’s of recently captured Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera.
The article and social media screenshots do not provide any journalistic value or help understand the ongoing situation in Mexico. The click-bait story simply idolizes El Chapo’s sons for their money, cars and guns. The author even refers to them as “royalty”.
Business Insider themselves admitted that they know the social media accounts they based their piece on have not been verified. They chose to disregard that in lieu of clicks and misinformation.
“While the social-media accounts of Mexican cartel royalty Ivan Guzmán, 32, and Alfredo Guzmán, 29, have not been independently verified, several photos consistently appear on both of their Facebook and Twitter accounts,” Business Insider reported.
Breitbart Texas has repeatedly reported on how the two twitter accounts are, in fact, false but have managed to dupe multiple news outlets. One of the clearest example of those two accounts duping news outlets came when they published a photo of a family in Costa Rica where they claimed that the people were El Chapo and his sons. That photo has since been proven to be a fake. But, as previously reported by Breitbart Texas, even the online news giant Yahoo News has been duped by it.
Instead of providing true journalistic insight into Mexican cartel activity, the Business Insider piece is just the latest example of American based news outlets glamorizing criminal activity in a country where the blood of the innocent runs down the streets.
From 2006 to 2012, Mexico had 121,000 drug related murders that the country’s Attorney General’s Office acknowledged, Excelsior reported. Since 2012, during Enrique Pena Nieto’s term, Mexico has seen more than 57,000 murders but likely the government has shifted the stats down, Carmen Aristegui reported.
In addition to those casualties, and the ones that have gone unreported, Business Insider overlooks the fact that El Chapo and his criminal organization is responsible for more than half of the heroin that is consumed in America — further fueling the heroin epidemic that has taken over the country.
Despite the blood on their hands, Business Insider chose to focus on the money, cars and guns acquired through blood money by cartel “royalty”.
