U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch wrote Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and other governors, and asked for help with President Obama’s unilateral gun control initiatives.
Her letter tracks the President’s executive actions on gun control on Tuesday which includes an expansion of the gun sales that are subject to background checks.
As reported by the Dallas Morning News, Lynch asked for assistance with the background check system.
Lynch wrote, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System is a “critical tool in keeping firearms out of the hands of prohibited persons.” She added, “[I]t is only as effective as the information entered into the databases upon which it relies.”
As reported by Breitbart Texas, Governor Greg Abbott, in anticipation of Obama’s unconstitutional unilateral gun control action, tweeted, “COME AND TAKE IT” and attached a Gonzales flag to the tweet. The Texas Governor said this was his response if “Obama wants to impose more gun control.”
So far, twenty states have acquiesced to serve as NICS Points of Contact (POC), to conduct some or all of the criminal background checks for gun purchases made in their states, as reported by the Dallas Morning News.
After the President’s executive action, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas, “The Bill of Rights was added as a specific safeguard to prevent the federal government from denying Americans those guaranteed rights. Today, the President trampled the purpose and substance of the Bill of Rights by unilaterally imposing Second Amendment restrictions.”
“After failing to pass gun control measures through Congress,’ the governor added, “the President is yet again resorting to unilateral executive action in place of the democratic process.”
Abbott also warned, “Despite the President’s latest attempt to undermine our liberty, Texas will take every action to protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.”
Prior to being elected governor, Abbott was the longest serving attorney general in the state’s history. He sued President Obama 31 times when he was attorney general. He also led the fight against the President’s unlawful executive order on amnesty.
