Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas and Coahuila to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities. The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by Coahuila’s “JM Martinez”.
PIEDRAS NEGRAS, Coahuila — As authorities continue to deal with a sudden spike in violence that has resulted in various executions and most recently the beheading of three informants at the hands of Los Zetas cartel members, one failed daytime execution continues to spike interests of investigators.
Earlier this month, a group of unknown gunmen tried to ambush 38-year-old Jorge Gilberto Gonzalez who is a local appliances mechanic. Gonzalez was shot at multiple times and was struck once in the midsection. While the man survived the shooting, medics were not able to remove the slug.
The shooting took place earlier this month when two gunmen pretending to be clients told Gonzalez that they needed him to fix a washing machine. The victim followed the gunmen in his own vehicle, but along the way, Gonzalez felt something was off and tried to drive home.
That is when a third vehicle that had been following him pulled in front and cut Gonzalez off. A gunman who has only been identified as “Mundin” got out third vehicle, walked over to Gonzalez and began shooting. Only one of the shots struck Gonzalez who managed to flee towards his house where his wife ran out and tended to him until paramedics arrived.
Based on witness statements, authorities tracked down and arrested Joel Ruben Escobar Chavez who was the driver of the vehicle that Mundin was riding in. Authorities continue to search for the gunman and to find a motive for the near execution.
In recent weeks, violence in this border state has spiked resulting in multiple shootings that have painted December red. As reported by Breitbart Texas, the most alarming case took place just days ago when gunmen working for Los Zetas kidnapped and beheaded three informants. The bodies and the heads were left in separate places causing panic as authorities searched for the victims.
Just days before the gruesome execution, Coahuila authorities had been looking into two separate murders where the bodies were found just minutes apart. In that case, the bodies had been beaten severely before both getting identical shots. One of the bodies had been beaten so badly that an eye was missing from the body.
