On October 11, 81-year-old Norman Holley of Mesquite, Texas, was forced to shoot his 34-year-old grandson in self-defense.
The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m.
IOnMesquite.com reports that the attack took place after “an argument” between the grandpa and his grandson, Micheal Ashley Holley, “turned violent.”
According to Star Local Media, Holley was allegedly “[trying] to attack his [grandpa]… with a knife” when the shot rang out. Mesquite Police Department spokesman Sgt. Joe Smith said, “I think it is a clear-cut case of self-defense.”
Holley was transported to a hospital, where his gunshot wound was treated. He was then released to police and was booked into the Dallas County Jail on October 12.
This is the second time Holley has been taken into custody for attacking his grandpa this year. In February he was arrested for “forcing his grandfather into a chair and cutting him.” He “pled guilty and was sentenced to five years of deferred probation.” With the attack on October 11 now on record, prosecutors could push to change the deferred status and have Holley forced to serve his time behind bars.
Holley has been arrested eight times over the past 14 years “for various crimes around the Dallas area, including multiple convictions for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, driving while intoxicated, and failure to identify himself.”
