Two 22-year-old males have been charged with murder in the death last week of a 21-year-old female UCLA student. Prosecutors said the motive for the UCLA murder was robbery.
One suspect, Alberto Hinojosa Medina, is a student at Fresno State University and could face the death penalty. The other, Eric Marquez, is a fifth-year UCLA student. Both men pleaded not guilty.
Their attorneys denied their clients’ involvement, according to the local ABC News affiliate.
The victim, Andrea DelVesco of Austin, TX, was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, and reportedly faced drug charges in a separate case.
The suspects are accused of stabbing her during a burglary, then setting her apartment on fire to cover up their crime.
DelVesco’s family mourned her this week as “a beautiful soul.”
