Would-Be Narco Carjacking Victim Runs Over Gunman

An would-be narco carjacking victim targeted by cartel gunmen turned the table on the criminals when he used his car to run over the leader of the group. The attempted carjacking took place at a highway in the border state of Tamaulipas, Mexico.

The failed carjacking and likely kidnapping took place this week just south of Ciudad Victoria, the capital of Tamaulipas. For years, this capital city has been under the control of the Los Zetas drug cartel.

According to information released by the Tamaulipas government, 30-year-old Carlos Osvaldo Juarez Hernandez confessed to leading a group of carjackers and kidnappers that worked an area known as “the curve” in a local highway.

It was in that area that the group tried to ambush a husband and wife that were driving along the highway. The gunmen stopped their truck along the highway and climbed out of the truck pointing their weapons at the victims.

Juarez Hernandez was carrying an AR-15 as he stood in front of the victims in an attempt to make them stop. Rather than slow down, the husband floored the gas pedal on his small Nissan sedan and struck Juarez Hernandez.

Due to the impact, the AR-15 became embedded in the top section of the windshield. The victims kept driving until they reached a military checkpoint. They stopped and asked for help.

Mexican authorities went to “the curve” and rushed Juarez Hernandez to a local hospital where he was later arrested.

Tamaulipas officials did not identify Juarez Hernandez as being part of Los Zetas despite the group being able to operate in Los Zetas territory. He was able to have an AR-15 and his group had other weapons not readily available in Mexico.
