NBCDFW has reported sources close to the investigation of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton have said the grand jury had sent down three indictments. The indictments were allegedly handed down and sealed on Tuesday and are expected to be unsealed as early as Monday.
Paxton is being investigated by the Collin County grand jury in connection with the question of whether he committed a securities crime by acting as a broker without being properly licensed, the report states.
A Tarrant County judge as been appointed to hear the case according to the sources for NBCDFW.
Breitbart Texas’ legal analyst Lana Shadwick previously reported on the grand jury being empaneled to investigate Mr. Paxton. The actions being investigated took place prior to Paxton’s becoming Attorney General of Texas.
Shadwick reported that in May, 2014, the Texas State Securities Board issued a fine to then Senator Paxton. The fine was $1,000.
Two special prosecutors were appointed to investigate the matter in relation to possible criminal charges.
At the time, one of the special prosecutors, Kent A. Schaffer told Breitbart Texas, “We have been investigating certain allegations for the last two months and we are now getting to the stage where our investigation is complete. The next stage is to present what we have found to a grand jury and it will be their duty to decide whether anything occurred which would warrant an indictment or a no-bill.”
The other special prosecutor, Brian Wice sent out a written statement that read, “With the assistance of the Texas Rangers, whose investigative efforts in this matter have been invaluable, we fully intend to follow the evidence the Rangers have brought us wherever it leads us. At the end of the day, it will be up to the grand jurors to determine whether or not probable cause exists to hand up indictments in this matter.”
NBCDFW stated that Paxton admitted he was not registered and paid the $1,000 civil fine last year.
At this time, Paxton’s spokesman has not issued a statement about the alleged indictments.
WFAA is also now reporting the indictment as well. “The charges will be unsealed in McKinney on Monday about noon, and a Tarrant County judge has already been appointed to preside over the case, sources told News 8.”
