Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican border cities of Reynosa and Matamoros to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities. The writers would face certain death at the hands of the Gulf Cartel if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. MATAMOROS, Tamaulipas — A group of cartel gunmen attacked two Mexican Federal Police officers killing one of them during an early morning ambush not far from this border city.
The attack took place shortly after 2 a.m. when Officer Cesar Rolando Garza Zamarron and his partner Marco Antonio Vidal Cabanas were conducting a routine patrol along the 244 kilometer marker in the highway that connects this border city with Ciudad Victoria, information provided by government officials to Breitbart Texas revealed.
The police officers spotted an SUV with six gunmen who began firing at them. The officers fired back and engaged in evasive maneuvers. As the officers tried to evade, a dark Ford Excursion hit them from behind running the police patrol off the road.
Officer Garza Zamarron was injured in the crash and was not able to escape. The gunmen continued to fire at the vehicle, killing him inside. His partner Vidal Cabanas was able to jump out of the patrol car, get cover in the brush, and continue fighting off the attack.
