‘We Mexicans Should Build a Monument for El Chapo,’ says Mexican Bishop

In the aftermath of the escape of famed capo Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Leora, a Mexican bishop has made headlines by arguing for a statue built in honor of the drug lord.

As previously reported by Breitbart Texas, this weekend the famed drug lord escaped from a Mexican maximum security prison called Altiplano through a mile-long, high-tech tunnel, delivering a brutal black-eye to the Mexican government.

Raul Vera Lopez, the Catholic bishop in the Mexican city of Saltillo said that the Mexican people should build a statue honoring Guzman Loera because in one swift move he exposed the unprecedented levels of corruption in Mexico, Mexico’s Milenio reported.

“Us Mexicans should build a monument for El Chapo,” the bishop is quoted in the Mexican news outlet. “Because in one swift stroke and in a transparent manner, he was able to expose the size of the corruption of the Mexican State.”

The bishop claimed that the famed drug lord’s escape did what he and many other human-rights activists throughout Mexico have tried in regards to exposing the deep-rooted corruption in that country.

“I don’t know how many elections nor whose and who else’s election he paid for … it is my opinion that this escape was pre-paid for,” Vera Lopez said.

Mexico’s political elite and the drug cartels have a long standing amicable relation, which has been exposed by the fact that two former governors are considered fugitives by U.S law enforcement, standing accused of taking money from drug cartels.

As previously reported by Breitbart Texas, the inability to capture and extradite the two governors and re-capture El Chapo has sparked outrage among U.S. politicians.
