A controversial open carry advocate is calling for the arrest and hanging of Texas state elected officials who voted against an open carry bill. Open carry activists in Texas have denounced him.
Kory Watkins, of West Tawakoni, Texas, posted the following message on his Facebook page on Thursday morning:
Watkins, the head of Open Carry Tarrant County (OCTC), has made headlines before when he threatened Texas lawmakers. In February, Breitbart Texas reported that Watkins posted a video message that raised alarm for seeming to make death threats against Texas legislators who do not vote his way on open carry laws.
C.J. Grisham, president and founder of Open Carry Texas told Breitbart Texas “Kory Watkins has once again proven that he is a fringe lunatic who has no bearing on Texas politics other than to sensationalize himself and get his name in the papers.” The open carry advocate continued, “He has done nothing for Liberty other than to run his mouth.”
Terry Holcomb, Sr., Executive Director of Texas Carry, told Breitbart Texas, “Kory Watkins does not represent the open carry community. Kory Watkins does not speak for the open carry community. Kory Watkins has always spoke for Kory Watkins and he is extremely dangerous.”
Richard Briscoe, Legislative Director of Open Carry Texas also talked with Breitbart Texas. Briscoe said “We repudiate the man and his statements. I find his views repugnant.”
Breitbart Texas’ Bob Price reported that the Texas House has voted to not concur with the changes made by the Senate. The bill has gone to a conference committee to attempt to resolve the differences in the bill.
Chairman of House Homeland Security and Public Safety, Larry Phillips (R-Sherman), said he expects the differences to be resolved and the bill to pass.
