Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican border cities of Reynosa and Matamoros to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the Gulf Cartel if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. REYNOSA, Tamaulipas — Mexican authorities arrested two Gulf Cartel members who were guarding a house the criminal organization was using to store weapons and vehicles. The two gunmen apparently burst into tears as the police photographed them, and the items seized from the house they were protecting.

The ongoing war against organized crime in the area has yielded some positive results, but cartel members continue their regular operations despite heavy law enforcement activity. In addition, firefights remain a regular occurrence in the border region.
