Texas border authorities continue to look into the recent theft of an unmarked Texas Department of Public Safety patrol car along with the weapons and equipment inside.
The theft took place at night time last week in a rural community north of the border city of Edinburg, information provided to Breitbart Texas by the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office revealed.
Authorities found the abandoned vehicle just a mile away from where it was taken with the firearms and other equipment inside missing. Breitbart Texas reached out to the Texas Department of Public Safety who referred all questions to Hidalgo County Sheriff’s since that office in leading the investigation into the theft.
In recent months the communities along the Texas border have seen a drastic increase in the number of patrol vehicles from DPS as part of a border surge aimed at curbing the out of control rise in human and drug trafficking in South Texas.
As Breitbart Texas previously reported, a shift in human smuggling routes resulted in the funneling of hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants through the Rio Grande Valley rapidly overwhelming the Department of Homeland Security despite their constant assurances of having things under control.
In response to that surge, DPS sent down their own surge called Operation Strong Safety where the added presence of DPS troopers along border highways has helped disrupt the trafficking efforts of crime syndicates.
