REYNOSA, Tamaulipas — Mexican authorities have destroyed more than 22 tons of marijuana, plus bundles of other drugs and contraband seized near the Texas border.
Unlike in the United States, where drugs are incinerated using a special oven of sorts, Mexico’s Attorney General instructed the Mexican army to pile bundles of marijuana in a secluded field, where they were doused with gasoline and set on fire.
According to information provided to Breitbart Texas by the Mexican Attorney General’s Office, the marijuana weighed a total of 22.5 tons. Officials also destroyed 54 grams of cocaine and 197 doses of psychoactive drugs.
In addition to the narcotics, the Mexican authorities torched 1700 pounds of clothing that was counterfeit or imported illegally, as well as 7,915 pieces of counterfeit goods.

The seized items come from 65 separate investigations being carried out in the border cities of Reynosa, Matamoros and Miguel Aleman. As previously reported by Breitbart Texas, those same cities have been ground zero for a fierce turf war within rival factions of the Gulf Cartel. The fighting between cartel members, plus various operations by Mexican authorities, have resulted in large daytime gun battles.
