A routine traffic stop in Pinal County (Arizona) led Sheriff’s deputies into a high-speed chase with a human smuggler who had previously been deported 20 times. The pursuit lasted for thirty miles and ended when the smuggler crashed his vehicle in a Phoenix area retirement community.

26 year-old Genaro Cisneros-Delgado was driving a minivan with four people inside on Interstate 10 between Tucson and Phoenix on the night of April 3, according to a Tucson News Now report. A Pinal County Sheriff’s deputy pulled Cisneros-Delgado over for an undisclosed traffic violation, and Ciseneros-Delgado initially seemed cooperative.

As the deputy approached the minivan, Cisneros-Delgado took off. The deputy ran back to his patrol car to engage in a highway pursuit. All of it was caught on camera. The video (above) was released on April 7. The pursuit, which involved a back-up police unit, lasted over a 30-mile distance. Cisneros-Delgado weaved in and out of traffic and split lanes at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. As the pursuit approached Phoenix, Cisneros-Delgado exited the highway, sped through neighborhoods, and crashed through a security gate into a retirement community. At a dead end, all five individuals in the minivan got out and tried to flee, but deputies on the scene arrested all of them.

Records show Cisneros-Delgado has been deported 20 times for entering the US illegally, per Tucson News Now. He has been booked for felony flight and endangerment, and more charges are pending while he is held on a $50,000 bond. Authorities say the men in the van with him were also illegal immigrants and that Cisneros-Delgado was smuggling them into the country for money.

“Genaro Cisneros-Delgado told deputies that he has been deported over 20 times after entering the United States illegally and being caught. He told a deputy this was the second time he has smuggled illegals and was doing so to earn money,” said Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu in an article posted on AZCentral.
