The patient who was transported to the hospital on Tuesday tested negative for the Ebola virus in both the initial and the follow-up tests, according to a statement from the Amarillo Bi-City-County Health District. The child’s mother went to the hospital to stay with the child and is also being monitored.
“The test results confirm that the patient does NOT have Ebola,” Community Relations Coordinator Sonja Gross wrote in the statement. “The health department will continue to monitor the patient and other travelers for the duration of the 21-day in-home isolation monitoring period.”
Breitbart Texas reported earlier on Friday that Dr. Ako Bradford with the Health Department said, “Remember, the likelihood of contracting Ebola is extremely low unless a person has direct unprotected contact with the blood or body fluids (like urine, saliva, feces, vomit, sweat, and semen) of a person who is sick with Ebola.”
