Seven more Mexican Federales police officers have been arrested in connection with a kidnapping and extortion racket in the border city of Matamoros. The Mexican federales have been accused of kidnapping Saul Hernandez Bautista who had previously served as the Matamoros Public Safety director, Mexico’s El Norte newspaper reported.
The arrest comes just days after 14 other federales were arrested by the Mexican military in connection with the kidnapping and extortion of a Mexican businessman, Breitbart Texas previously reported.
In Hernandez’s case, he claimed that he had been driving his truck when a group of federales pulled him over. They had him get in their patrol car and took his wallet, the victim is quoted in the Mexican publication. The man also claimed that the cops took him to a secluded area where they took the PIN number for one of his cards. The cops let him go under the condition that he meet them by the city’s airport the next day with $50,000 pesos in cash.
The following day Hernandez went back with marked bills and with a squad of officers from Mexico’s Federal Police Internal Affairs who arrested the rogue cops after the money was exchanged.
