The Texas Governor’s Mansion in Austin has a new resident — of the four-legged variety. Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) announced over the weekend that his family had adopted a puppy, a golden retriever they have named “Pancake.”
Abbott posted the news on his Facebook and Twitter accounts, along with a photo of the adorable pup.
The response on social media was overwhelming positive, with over 58,000 “Likes” on Facebook and over 600 retweets and over 1,400 favorites on Twitter as of Monday. Many remarked on the puppy’s fluffy coat and several wrote comments saying that Pancake was “so sweet she didn’t need any maple syrup.” Texas Supreme Court Justice Don Willett, well known for his quick wit on Twitter, posted a funny photo of how Pancake could help Abbott in his duties as Governor:
Pancake joins the Governor, wife Cecilia, daughter Audrey, and a female border collie named “Oreo” at the Governor’s Mansion. Amelia Chasse, Abbott’s press secretary, told Breitbart Texas that the Abbotts had wanted a second dog for awhile but decided to wait until they moved into the historic house one block from the Capitol.
Pancake and Oreo seem to be getting along famously, and can be seen playing together in these video clips provided by the Governor’s Press Office exclusively to Breitbart Texas:
