Amid the fierce fighting between rival factions of the Gulf Cartel, the Mexican military came upon a warehouse that was being used to make armored vehicles.
Since Sunday, rival factions of the Gulf Cartel from Matamoros and Reynosa went to war — effectively turning those border cities into warzones. One of the shootouts took place along the Matamoros-Reynosa highway and it was along that same highway that Mexican soldiers found the warehouse.
According to information provided to Breitbart Texas by Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (PGR), a convoy of Mexican soldiers found a cartel lookout who had a number of radios and scanners. When the soldiers tried to approach the lookout he ran away into the warehouse. When the soldiers got into the warehouse they saw that it was a shop that was being used to turn regular vehicles into bulletproof trucks. The military seized 13 trucks all with Texas license plates, of which 8 had already been armored. The soldiers also seized a small amount of ammunition that had been left behind.
Criminal organizations such as the Gulf Cartel regularly use stolen vehicles that are then reinforced with steel plates in order to use them during firefights. In the recent shootouts residents have reported seeing convoys made up of dozens of trucks with gunmen rolling into the scenes of the shootouts.
